UBS Global Wealth Management
has appointed Theresa Wong as hedge fund specialist in Hong Kong, to strengthen its alternatives capabilities in the region.
According to the firm, survey results in its latest UBS global family office report show that more than a third of the portfolios of family offices in APAC are allocated to alternatives and the trend is rising.
Wong joined the firm from Goldman Sachs where she worked for nine years in various positions with a focus on hedge funds, the firm added in a statement.
After gaining experience in Prime Brokerage covering Asian hedge funds, Wong worked for the Alternative Investments and Manager Selection Group at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, the firm said. As a hedge funds specialist, she provided advisory services for private wealth, institutional and third-party distribution clients in Asia-Pacific.
Wong will report to Gunther Jost, the head of hedge funds and investments specialists, who the firm said is a veteran in the alternatives industry with 18 years of experience.
"Given heightened volatility and uncertainty in markets, our clients are increasingly looking for uncorrelated returns through investing in hedge funds,” Jost said.
“Alternatives, including private markets and hedge funds, play a key role in taking a longer-term, endowment-style investing approach for portfolio diversification,” he added.
